The Additional financing of the project is € 12 million. Modern methods of forest management, reforestation and expansion of forest areas will help the Belarusian forest sector to adapt to climate change, hurricanes and pests.

"The Climate is changing and the Belarusian forestry must adapt to new weather conditions. This project will help Belarus to cope with the consequences of extreme weather events, such as a powerful hurricane in the summer of 2016, which damaged 14,000 hectares of forest, — said the head of the world Bank's representative office in Belarus Alex Kremer. — Moreover, improved methods of forest management contribute to economic development in rural areas, creating new jobs and business opportunities".

The additional Funding will increase the number of individual activities initiated under the initial project. It is planned to create two additional foresters in Mogilev and Grodno regions and purchase forest machinery and equipment. In total, with the help of an initial loan and additional financing, six foresters will be improved — one in each region of Belarus.

"Increase the capacity of the nurseries will provide planting material that is required to restore blown down and otherwise damaged forests, and will help Belarus in the creation and management more resilient to climate forests, — said the head of the project group of the world Bank Andrew Mitchell. — In addition, the activities of the project "development of the forest sector in the Republic of Belarus" will help to improve the efficiency of forestry, determine the correct species compositions of forest species and improve the quality of planting material, which will be a reliable basis for reforestation".
